Pontypridd Under 13s retained the Blues Regional Cup they won a year earlier following a tough encounter against a determined Ystrad Rhondda side on Tuesday 4th May.

Pontypridd started strongly with second row Corey Llewellyn catching the kick off and making ground into the opposition 22. Good defence by Ystrad kept Ponty at bay and eventually turned over the ball and cleared. Ystrad then applied the pressure and almost broke through only to be halted by a superb cover tackle by centre Chris John.

Pontypridd opened the scoring when scrum half Greg Mogford broke blind from a ruck, drew in the defence and fed winger James Stallard who dived over in the corner.

Both sides enjoyed a fair amount of possession early in the second half and looked to move the ball wide and attack at every opportunity. Strong defence from both sides prevented any early second half scores. Pontypridd extended their lead following a break from centre John, who fed prop Grant Jones to score the try.

This was followed with a try by John himself who broke clear near the halfway line and raced in for an excellent individual score which Callum Hall converted. The final score came following some good lineout work from Llewellyn which resulted in No.8 and captain Aled Evans scoring.

This was an excellent game of rugby with both sides contributing to a high quality game.

TRY Scorers: James Stallard, Grant Jones, Chris John & Aled Evans. Conversion kicked by Callum Hall.

Pontypridd Squad: Nicholas Holland, Dewi Morris, Joe Davies, Jordan Powell, Rowan Thomas, Kieran Hughes, Ben Stephens, Corey Llewellyn, Jacob Williams, Luke Deeley, Greg Mogford,  Harri Evans, Jarred Almond-Roberts, Miles Pring, Sam Rundle, Trystan Gruffydd, James Stallard, Rhys Blacker, Corey Panes, Chris John, Aled Evans, Callum Hall, Jed Parsons, Lewys Cullen, Grant Jones, Rhys Condron.
