8.5.2009
You don't often have 53,278 unique page views over the course of a month on what can be considered, in global terms, a 'niche' website*, but Ponty.net did!
Now, when I say “Unique Page Views”, I'm talking about pages viewed once in total on the www.ponty.net website over the course of 1 month (easy, eh?!).
Don't get this mixed up with the number of People visiting the site – that's a different figure – and given that some people visit at home, in work, and on their mobile devices (Phones, PDAs, Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries etc etc), it's actually not possible to ascertain how many Individuals have browsed the hallowed halls of the official Pontypridd RFC website; suffice to say, it's in the tens of thousands.
That said, the April 2009 stats (courtesy of Google Analytics) you see here are pretty impressive for a Premiership club (heck, even a “Region” would struggle to keep up). The columns in the screenshot provide average figures for the whole site, but as the site is so massive, the figures aren't always entirely appropriate. To explain...
Column 1: Page Views – i.e. The total number of pages viewed. Repeated views of a single page are counted.
Column 2: Unique Page Views – i.e. The number of visits during which one or more of these pages was viewed.
Column 3: Average Time on Page – i.e. The average amount of time that visitors spent viewing this set of pages.
Column 4: Bounce Rate – i.e. the page accessed wasn't what the user was looking for, so they didn't stay on the site.
Column 5: Exit Page – i.e. how many users left the site after viewing the page in question (not to be confused with “Bounce Rate”).
Column 6: N/A – we don't use Google's various marketing tools to make money on the site.
You can also see which areas of the website are the most popular, some of which are obvious, such as the Home Page (#1), and TerraceTalk (#2); whereas others make me wonder whether those areas of the site need tinkering with and improving, such as Links (#5) and Player Archive (#6).
You can also see just how much time, on average, users spent looking at the top ten pages shown here (ahh, TerraceTalkers, you really do love the forum!). All in all, a good month!
The site actually makes some money too – but we can't do it without you – so when you see the advertising banners, for goodness sakes, give them a click! Every little helps!

* Of course, we Pontypridd supporters know differently, there's nothing 'niche' about the mighty Pont!
