On 6th December 2010, Gio Compario, the larger than life opera star, will release his debut single following his meteoric rise to fame as the face of Gocompare.com.
This very special version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town will be released as a charity Christmas single raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity dedicated to helping young people fight cancer.
Gio, played by real life opera star Wynne Evans, said of the single, “Gio Compario has become an instantly recognisable figure and a character that children love. We know from Gocompare’s experience that they love to sing along to the “Gocompare” song so we hope that they will enjoy the single in the same way. It is fantastic to be able to use the character in this way and help raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
Simon Davies, CEO of Teenage Cancer Trust, said, “What better way to celebrate the festive season than this classic Santa song! At Teenage Cancer Trust we know that every day in the UK, six young people will hear the devastating news they have cancer. We hope this single tops the charts so we can help to give more young people with cancer the best chance of a positive outcome.”
Gio Compario has become one of the most recognisable characters on TV and has been credited with boosting Gocompare.com’s customer numbers by more than 60 per cent since the TV adverts first aired in August 2009.
Opera singer Wynne Evans, who plays Gio Compario, is one of Britain's most respected tenors, having sung with some of the leading opera houses, including English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He will also be performing at the O2 arena on the 23rd December as part of the Christmas Spectacular.
The single, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, will be available to download from iTunes, Amazon, HMV, play.com and 7 digital from Monday 6th December*, and will be an extremely alternative contender for the Christmas number one spot.
Gocompare.com launched in November 2006. It was founded by Hayley Parsons, who has worked her entire career in the insurance broking and aggregator markets, and was the first comparison sites to focus on displaying product features rather than just listing prices. It was this philosophy that led to Gocompare.com becoming the first price comparison site to be invited to join the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) in May 2008 and helped force older comparison sites to change their ‘quick quote’ ways and stop using assumptions to calculate estimated figures.
Today, Gocompare.com provides one of the most comprehensive online car insurance comparison services in the UK as well as comparing home, motorbike, van, pet insurance and breakdown cover.
Gocompare.com is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
Every day in the UK, six young people are told they have cancer. This is a rising figure and there are already more young people than children with the disease. These young people often receive hospital treatment in inappropriate facilities catering for children or the elderly.
Teenage Cancer Trust builds specialist units in NHS hospitals which bring young people together so they can support each other in an environment suited to their needs. The units are designed to have a home-from-home atmosphere that is as close as possible to young person’s normal life outside hospital. The state-of-the-art units are bright and vibrant and will often include pool tables, comfy sofas, music, laptops, wifi, Skype and TVs, helping them cope with grueling treatment and often long stays in hospital. The units also provide an expert medical team of teenage cancer specialists.
