There are this season no fewer than six players representing Pontypridd RFC sharing the surname "Williams" and none of them as far as is known directly related.
Centre Gary Williams, props Jon
and Stuart Williams, and wingers Owen and Lewis
Williams
have been joined by young Blues Academy outside half Lewis Williams.
And thereby emerges a problem which was last encountered by the club back in the late nineties - that of two players sharing the same forename and surname.
At the time when both a winger and a no 8 called Geraint Lewis turned out for Ponty, the dilemma was overcome by inserting the initials "O" and "P" into their names respectively.
The two Lewis Williamses who now play for Ponty have divulged that they have middle names, bearing the initials "I" for the fleet-footed winger and "K" for the highly promising outside half. Neither however are willing to make public those middle names.
Problem solved, as any mention in dispatches from now on will be of winger Lewis I. Williams and outside half Lewis K. Williams.
That's the name of the game at Pontypridd RFC this season!
