GETHIN Jenkins has been warned to sit out the next few weeks for Pontypridd if he wants to play a part in the Six Nations, writes Matt Lloyd.
The Wales prop, who won his second cap against New Zealand in November, is almost certain to miss tomorrow's trip to Newport due to a shoulder injury.
Jenkins is suffering from an inflamed shoulder joint and has been advised to rest - otherwise he could risk worsening the condition which would end his Six Nations Championship before it even began.
"We are concerned about the problem," admitted Pontypridd coach Lynn Howells.
"It should be fine with rest, but if he keeps playing with his shoulder as it is, then he could be out for months.
"He will have further tests, but if there is any doubt about the injury then he will not play.
"We have to be aware that he is likely to play some part in the Six Nations and, at the end of the day, that is what the clubs are all about, supplying players for the national team.
"At the moment I don't think he is a worry for that."
Certainly Wales coach Steve Hansen will be hoping that Jenkins pulls through in time having already seen Pontypridd team-mates Sonny Parker and Neil Jenkins, as well as Andy Marinos, ruled out for the opening games.
Wales begin their Six Nations campaign against Italy in Rome on February 15.
