The bad news is that Pontypridd RFC has a swathe of early season casualties; the good news is that most of them are progressing to recovery ahead of schedule.
Of the long term absentees, centre Dafydd Lockyer, outside half Simon Humberstone and flanker Jake Thomas all out since the summer break having undergone shoulder operations, two are now close to achieving full fitness. Lockyer and Thomas are just about ready to commence full contact training and could be back in the reckoning within a week or two. Humberstone will be given a longer period to heal.
Centre Gavin Dacey is progressing well from his ankle ligament injury, having had the cast removed from his leg but still looking at up to a month out of action.
Prop Chris Phillips, who retired hurt from the game against Aberavon three weeks ago is still recovering from a heavily bruised knee but is back in light training.
Second row Craig Locke is meanwhile proving to be something of an enigma with a persistent back strain. Medical staff are waiting for the results of recent scans on the injury, which should give a clearer picture of the treatment and recovery time required.
Three of Ponty’s new recruits this season are making good recovery from recent injuries.
Centre Lewis Reece is back in full training following a close season thigh strain and is working hard to achieve full match fitness.
