Indigo Premiership round up – 08/09/19

A new Premiership campaign got underway on the weekend of 7th September, with every indication that the revised twelve club tournament will offer quality and intensity over the coming months.

The action commenced on the Friday evening with two close-fought encounters.

Cardiff edged a 24pts to 23 home win over Pontypridd in a televised match, relying on the last kick of the match, a wide angle conversion, to take the verdict. A similar cliff-hanger was being played out at the Brewery Field where Bridgend let go an interval lead of 20pts to 10 the eventually lose to visitors Aberavon by 26pts to 27.

On Saturday afternoon the honours from a north – south Gwent derby went to Newport, who came away from Eugene Cross Park with a bonus point 23pts to 29 victory over Ebbw Vale. Swansea claimed an emphatic 33pts to 5 home win over visitors Llanelli, again adding a bonus point courtesy of their four try haul.

In the last match of the weekend on Sunday, reigning champions Merthyr returned empty handed from their long trip north, going down to a 23pts to 17 defeat to RGC.
