Having come up through the ranks of his local club Taffs Well and impressed in tight and loose from his prop position, Lloyd James moved on to play for Beddau RFC in the Championship.
A call to the Pontypridd senior squad followed in the summer of 2021. Lloyd left the club a few months into the 2021/22 season to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
