Pontypridd RFC is today coming to terms, as is the entire community of Welsh rugby, with the passing away of former Ponty and Neath scrum half Gareth Jones – better known to all his acquaintances as “Snid”.
The tragic news of Gareth’s passing came on the afternoon of 16th June, the twenty-eight year old finally losing his long battle to overcome a serious neck injury sustained whilst playing for Neath back in April.
The thoughts of everyone at Pontypridd RFC are today with Gareth’s young family. Memories of a hugely popular player will be cherished by all who remember him from his time with the club.
The following statement has been issued by Neath RFC:
“It is with deep regret that Neath Rugby have to announce that Scrum Half Gareth Jones passed away peacefully this afternoon, in the Heath hospital Cardiff. Gareth's family have requested that their privacy is respected at this very sad and difficult time for them all.”
