Everyone a winner on Lockyer’s big day

The sun always shines on the righteous, and it certainly did on Pontypridd RFC on Saturday 19th May 2018, the final day of the season and a celebration of captain Dafydd Lockyer’s achievements.

The activities went on from noon ’till midnight, with sell-out audiences attending the Former Players’ Association and the Dafydd Lockyer Testimonial dinners, and a large crowd in attendance for the benefit match between Pontypridd and the Lockyer Select XV. The game ended in a 45pts all draw following a thoroughly entertaining contest.

Celebrations continued long into the night, the Clubhouse Bar and forecourt at Sardis Road packed out as supporters mingled with players past and present, a successful auction of rugby memorabilia held, followed by live entertainment.

To cap a good night the Pontypridd Youth squad returned triumphant from Newport bearing the WRU Regional Cup following their final round triumph over Bridgend Athletic.

All in all a great time was had by all in what turned out to be a celebration not just of one man in iconic club captain Dafydd Lockyer, but of what Pontypridd RFC is all about. The congregation of so many illustrious past players, with the current squad and future hopefuls, backed by the ever present, ever passionate Ponty support, was a fitting end to another season at Sardis Road.
