Pontypridd RFC is delighted to announce that another of its ‘prodigal sons’, outside half Dai Flanagan will be rejoining the club for the commencement of the 20012-2013 campaign.
“Dai Flan” had already attained an iconic status with the Ponty support during his previous stint at Sardis Road from 2003 to 2010. His injury time drop goal sailing between the posts at the Millennium Stadium to win the 2006 Welsh Cup is an enduring moment of the club’s recent history.
Hailing from Cefn Hengoed, Dai Flanagan came up through the ranks of the Celtic Warriors Academy and broke into the Pontypridd senior team during the 2003 – 2004 season. Gaining international honours with Wales at youth and under 21 level, and captaining both teams, he was acclaimed as an outstanding prospect in the number ten shirt.
Graduating to a senior contract with the Blues regional squad in 2006, Dai Flanagan maintained his link with Pontypridd playing in the Premiership. A move followed to the Ospreys region in 2010, with an allocation firstly to Tonmawr and then to Bridgend at club level. Further international honours were gained with Wales Sevens.
Dai Flanagan’s career now completes a full circle as he returns to his club of origin Pontypridd to play an integral role in the push for league and cup success.
Aged twenty-seven, Dai Flanagan will be a significant addition to the squad as a midfield play-maker and goal kicker.
