The Amber Bar at Sardis Road was packed to its limits on Saturday evening 30th January as a charity night was held for Pontypridd RFC under 16s player Cory McCarthy.

The audience was a mix of friends and family, and parents, coaches and fellow players from the Mini & Junior sections, all turning out to show their respect for a young man who has battled bravely against cancer over the past few months.

A sum of over £2,000 was raised on the night alone, with more money pledged to help Cory’s family, and to the Cancer Care Unit at Heath Hospital, where Cory has been receiving treatment.

A raffle and auction, and a charity shave and hair cut carried out on willing victim Andrew Kemp were all part of the fund raising events.

Entertainment was then provided into the night by a disco and a Tom Jones tribute act.

Cory was presented with a signed and framed photograph of his day as a match mascot for Pontypridd in their home Premiership game against Cardiff back in December, handed over by senior squad vice captain Gavin Dacey.

Everyone at the club will wish Cory the very best for the future as he continues to conquer his illness.

The organisers of the charity event would like to express their gratitude to all who turned up, and all who contributed to making the evening such a resounding success.
