Pontypridd RFC have nominated Chris Dicomidis as club captain for the 2010 – 2011 campaign.
The vacancy left open by the departure of former skipper Nathan Strong will now be filled by a player who has shown great commitment to the cause, and who was voted as Player of the Year 2010.
Back five forward Dicomidis was a stalwart performer for Ponty, making thirty-four appearances for the club last season, many of those as captain in the absence of Nathan Strong. That role will now be formally bestowed upon him.
Senior coach Dale McIntosh, in making the announcement of Dicomidis’ appointment, expressed his full confidence in the players’ ability to take on the leading role.
“Dico has shown tremendous form over the past couple of seasons” said McIntosh “and has already shown his leadership qualities, often in difficult circumstances on the field of play.
“He can now develop those qualities further in the role of club captain, and enhance his stature amongst the squad, both on and off the field. Undoubtedly he has the capability to do so.”
There will be no formal nomination of a vice-captain, with a number of players sharing the load in support of the new skipper, as explained by McIntosh. “We are looking at the senior players amongst the squad, the likes of Gavin Dacey, Adam Thomas, Ryan Harford and Wayne O’Connor, to take on the responsibilities of backing up the captain.
"This will allow the players to focus on their own game but also to step up in turn to the role of vice captain.”
