A thrilling climax to a long hard league campaign saw Pontypridd RFC claim the premiership “bronze medal” by securing a third place finish in the table.
The last league game of the season away to Cardiff went right down to the wire, with Ponty showing typical commitment and determination to battle for two bonus points – one for scoring four tries and one for losing within a seven point margin – in going down to a narrow 27pts to 26 defeat.
A hard fought encounter against Cardiff took its toll in terms of injuries, with scrum half Andrew Jenkins and no 8 Geraint Lewis limping off, but the main concern being winger Kristian Baller who ended the evening on crutches.
Kristian will this week undergo x-ray scans on a suspected fractured bone in his left foot.
With the league campaign over for another year, the focus of attention for Pontypridd is now the Konica Minolta Cup Final against Neath on Saturday 17th May.
