Following the games played in Round Four of the qualifying stages of the British & Irish Cup on Saturday 26th February, Doncaster Knights have taken command of Pool D maintaining their 100% record.
The Knights posted a six try bonus point win over bottom club Birmingham & Solihull, by 41pts to 8. Birmingham took a short lived first minute lead but then succumbed to another heavy defeat.
In a competitive game played at the Arms Park, Cardiff kept their hopes alive with a 34pts to 27 win over Rotherham Titans. Both teams scored four tries apiece, but the kicking of home outside half Gareth Davies proving crucial.
The tie between Ayr and Pontypridd went right to the wire as Ponty salvaged a 21pts to 22 win with a last minute try and conversion scored by Kristian Baller.
Ponty will play Doncaster in their outstanding fixture on Wednesday evening 3d March with the result likely to have a big impact on the outcome of the pool, either keeping alive Ponty’s slim hopes of qualification or underlining the Knights’ overall dominance.
