Pontypridd began the game in confident mood with centre Dafydd Lockyer breaking the gain line. Concerted pressure saw the visitors crossing the line but a try disallowed.

Undaunted Ponty continued to lay siege in the Bedwas twenty-two and were rewarded as no8 Owen Sheppeard barged over for a touchdown which went unconverted, with just five minutes gone.

Willing to attack from deep and giving the ball plenty of width, Ponty remained the dominant force, their cause aided by a strong set piece, but unable to harvest further points during the first quarter.

Bedwas worked their way back into contention generating some forward momentum but repelled by a solid Pontypridd defence. Into the last five minutes of the first half Ponty resumed their dominance of possession and territory, centre Lockyer instigating an attack with a break and then rounding off with a try in the corner after a series of forward drives. Finishing the half strongly, Ponty were well worthy of their interval advantage of 0pts to 10.

Immediately from the restart Ponty struck for another score, outside half Simon Humberstone rounding off a fluent passing move by squeezing in for a try in the corner. Pressure was maintained as the Ponty pack grafted for possession in the loose, and patiently played through many phases before an overlap was worked for flanker Jake Thomas to cross for a bonus point try which Humberstone converted.

Just as the visitors seemed to be brimming with confidence and easing their way to victory, the game took a distinctive turn as Bedwas knuckled down to fight back. A counter attack instigated by full back Stuart Thomas culminated in a try claimed by flanker Rob Carter and converted by outside half Richard Powell.

Going into the final quarter Bedwas looked revitalised and struck again with a wide attacking move which put full back Thomas in for another try. Ponty were scrambling back in defence and dealt a double blow as prop Pat Palmer was sin binned for infringing with home outside half Powell converting the ensuing penalty.

With the result in the balance Ponty regained composure and commenced to drive upfield, allowing replacement outside half Lewis K Williams to coolly stroke over a crucial penalty. It was Ponty who finished the game off on the front foot, with Bedwas flanker Carter shown a yellow card at the death and the visitors holding out for the win by 15pts to 25.
