There will be a special fund raising event held at Pontypridd RFC on Friday 12th May for one of its finest former players - prop Paul Knight.
"A Knight To Remember" will pay tribute to the rugged front rower who joined up with Pontypridd in 1987 and went on to win five caps for Wales and to represent the Barbarians, at a time when honours were rarely given to players at such an 'unfashionable' club. Paul, or 'Crunner' as he was known to all, also played with distinction for Aberavon and his home town club Treorchy.
His playing career drew to a close as he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a condition which has severely impeded him since, but which he has battled with the same doggedness as typified his performances on the pitch.
In 2004 Pontypridd staged a testimonial match for Paul to which his former adversary, England and Lions prop Jason Leonard brought a star studded international XV.
"A Knight To Remember" will be held in the Grandstand Lounge at Sardis Road on Friday 12th May commencing at 7:30pm. Tickets are now on sale priced at £15 per person or £150 for a table of ten. Included in the price will be a buffet meal and entertainment provided by top comedian Phil Howe. The evening will be hosted by Bob Harris, with a number of past Ponty players and rugby celebrities in attendance.
