It will be a collective effort from Pontypridd RFC, drawing on all its strengths and virtues both on and off the field, that will see it take on a huge challenge in its final league fixture of the season.
“Team Ponty” will gear up to face Llandovery in a winner takes all encounter at Sardis Road on Saturday 28th April – the game kicking off at 2:30pm. A win for Pontypridd will ensure a top place finish in the league, a defeat would see Llandovery usurp their hosts to claim a Play-Off semi final place.
The Ponty squad will need to maintain momentum from a run of five consecutive league wins, and will expect to be roared on by a large and passionate crowd at the “House of Pain”.
Pontypridd coach Paul John is aware of the magnitude of the task in hand, but also of the club’s capability to succeed.
“The league campaign now comes down to one game” said John, “and we know that a win will see us finish top and a loss could see us loose out completely.
“We will be up against a Llandovery team who are very much on form, and will make it difficult for us on the day.
“We are in charge of our own destiny here and after a run of seven games in the last month we are going from game to game, re-charging the batteries as we go. It will take a huge effort to compete against Llandovery, but we come off the back of a good win away at Swansea which will give us confidence.”
As so often in the past, when the big occasion arises at Sardis Road, Paul John knows that the Ponty support will be there to make a contribution.
“Our support has been magnificent again this season, home and away, near and far. A big crowd getting behind us on Saturday, and being loud from the first whistle to the last, will certainly give the boys on the pitch a huge lift – hopefully enough to get the win that we need”.
